The 24 hour vigil is aiming to support advocacy efforts around COP 26 and climate change. It is a time to pray, meditate and reflect on our efforts as human beings to protect our common home. It is also a session to pray for the negotiations at COP26 that it may deliver conscious discourse and conscious actions from our leaders.
24 Hours for the Climate” is a global vigil for Catholics and people of faith to pray and advocate for the success of COP26, the major United Nations summit on climate change from 31 October to 12 November.
Our faith calls each of us to hold our nations’ leaders accountable to the needs of God’s creation, marginalized communities, and future generations. At COP26, we need negotiators to agree to stop all fossil fuel extraction by 2040, protect and restore ecosystems, and financially support developing countries as they adapt to climate change.
On 5-6 November, join this live broadcast alongside fellow Catholics and people of faith to learn from communities suffering from climate change, pray for the future of our common home, and write messages that will be delivered to COP26 negotiators.
Every hour, we’ll broadcast a prayer experience themed around God’s creation and ecological spirituality and the story of a community impacted by climate change. These 48 broadcasts will be hosted by different countries from around the world, showcasing their unique cultures, languages, and experiences. A schedule is coming soon.
